Stone Hill

Stone Hill, defined by the Green River on the east and Hemlock Brook on the west, extends from the geopolitical center of Williamstown to South Williamstown. The bedrocks of Stone Hill are a complex of alkaline dolostones, quartzite, and phyllite. In the 18th and 19th centuries Stone Hill Road, which runs just to the west of the hill’s spine was the main route connecting South Williamstown and Williamstown center. Stone Hill is a landscape of active and post-agricultural parcels interspersed with woodlots that date back to the European settlement of the region.
